[IGN Fan Fest] Even More Redfall Details

We have known for a little less than a month that Redfall will be released on May 2. But some elements of the game were still a little obscure. In addition to showing a new trailerthe IGN Fan Fest is an opportunity for Ben Horne, the Production Director, to respond to an interview to give some details on Arkane Austin’s next game.

If we already knew that the open world and its every corner had been created completely by hand, he seems proud to announce that there will be “thousands and thousands of lines to read” by discovering documents scattered around left and right. It will no doubt be very interesting, but that’s not really the idea we have of environmental storytelling. The essence of video games is that they can show, rather than tell – especially in text. Admittedly, the writings, and in a way, the audiologs, have been predominant in the studio’s previous titles, but that doesn’t really seem in line with a four-player co-op game…

He also returns to the comparison that might be made with a Left 4 Dead, and indicates that being in a group is not an obligation: there will be a bonus if you play near your partners, but nothing prevents you from dispersing to the four corners of the city and achieving several objectives simultaneously. This also ties in with the fact that the whole game can be done solo. We can therefore deduce that there will probably be no vampire with abilities such as hunter where the smoker of Valve’s zombie game.

Ben also brings up a point that seems interesting: the fact that different factions of NPCs can meet and fight each other, without it being scripted. We might then hear gunshots in the distance, bringing some life to the universe.

Unfortunately, the gunfights shown in the trailer are still not engaging, the fault of enemies who do not really react to the impact of our bullets. At the risk of repeating ourselves, we really feel like we are dealing with plastic opponents, it is very disappointing. Our hope of seeing an evolution on this side is gradually dwindling…

Redfall is set to release on May 2 on Steaml’Epic Games Storeas well as on the Xbox Game Pass.
