Iggy Pop and Julien Baker have joined The Armed for “ Sport of Form », new single taken from the album « Perfect Saviors ».
Iggy Pop and Julien Baker have joined band The Armed to release their latest single “ Sport of Form “. This release precedes the band’s next album, Perfect Saviors, which will be released on August 25.
Baker is on vocals and Iggy plays the role of God in the clip that accompanies the title. Tony Wolski of The Armed explained the title of the song in a statement to Rolling Stone : « There are two types of sport: those of measurement and those of form. A measurement sport like basketball or soccer has a point system and a sort of binary path to victory. A fitness sport is something like diving, figure skating, or bodybuilding: something with evolving standards, a layer of subjectivity, and some sort of critical component. The world around us is complex and our lives are more a sport of form than a sport of measurement. However, many people think otherwise. »
He adds : ” Lyrically, this song is regarding the human need to win a game that we aren’t even playing in reality. Sonically, it reflects this cognitive dissonance through a constant clash between beauty and ugliness, severity and tenderness, obscenity and grace. »
Iggy recently joined Duff McKagan and Chad Smith for the launch of his tour Every Loser in Los Angeles. On Sunday, Baker and fellow boygenius Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus took to the stage during their performance in Tennessee, dressed as a drag queen, and made their voices heard regarding the state governor’s anti-LGBTQ stances by chanting, ” Fuck Bill Lee ».
