IFK Göteborg played 1-1 against Kalmar FF last Saturday. After that, just about every result went against Blåvitt.
Bottom competitors Värnamo, Halmstad and Norrköping won all their matches – and IFK Göteborg lost ground before the final round.
Center back August Erlingmark is not particularly surprised by the outcome.
– I was prepared that we will have to do this ourselves, he says after Tuesday’s training at Ullevi.
– When we don’t take the chance against Kalmar, you can’t hold on and think that someone else will help you.
Now a shocker awaits away against Mjällby for IFK Gothenburg. A win guarantees Allsvenskan play in 2025. In the event of a loss or a draw, Blåvitt may be forced to qualify. Then everything depends on the result in IFK Värnamo’s match against Elfsborg.
– We need to have the same mentality as we have had recently. We must work hard, push on and not lose our heads. We’ll keep driving. We have played good away games this year against better teams, says Erlingmark.
He admits that the players’ psyche is put to the test in this vulnerable table position.
– It is clear that it is stressful. But we have put ourselves in the situation, he says.
How do you handle the pressure in the best way?
– I focus on myself and my achievements. I focus on what I can contribute. Keeping up a good mood, helping my teammates. I try to do personal bests. That’s the only thing I can influence.
– However, I have been involved in these situations before. Then I walked around thinking too much. I’ve been better this year at staying focused on my own performance, because that’s the only thing I can influence.
August Erlingmark concludes:
– I have always felt a great responsibility for Blåvitt. I know since childhood what it means to so many and to myself. I have always felt that.

Blåvitt’s technical director, Ola Larsson, then gives his view on the weekend’s Allsvenskan results.
– We have had a period before where many of the results went with us. It will be so so. We need to focus on doing our thing, generally speaking, says Larsson.
– There will be fairly clear conditions for us. It is good to take into a match that “this is what counts”. We need to win. Based on those results, it becomes clear what we should do in any case.
What will be most important to you in the week leading up to the Mjällby match?
– It’s mental, being in the right place, says Ola Larsson.
– Then we have changed our game in the last ten games. In just a match like this, a real autumn match on a windy, rainy and crazy surface… It probably suits our way of playing quite well. I see that as our advantage.
To help the team with the mental parts extra, IFK Gothenburg has chosen to move both coaches Magnus Edlund and Marcus Berg one step closer to the players. That change already took place during the crisis camp in Strömstad, at the end of August.
– We have made quite a lot of changes there. We work much more with individual feedback. We have done that since the camp (in Strömstad), and I think that has made us very strong defensively.
What does this change mean more concretely?
– There has been a lot of positive reinforcement of good behavior. Partly for the people who you might think are taking steps towards greater leadership, but also that the team motivates each other out on the track a lot.
– But also positive feedback based on performance. That we focus very much on what you do well.

IFK Gothenburg’s head coach Stefan Billborn then takes over. He begins by giving his view on the latest round of play.
– The Allsvenskan is as it is this year. There are no teams that you can “trust”, says Billborn and continues:
– If you look at the total points of the teams that finish up there, it is not that high, which means that everyone can beat everyone. At the end it turns out.
How do you see your situation before the final round?
– The only thing now is that there are fewer teams involved. Probably only us and Värnamo are involved in the qualifying spot. But probably it would still have been necessary for us to win the match (against Mjällby).
– It is clear that there could have been three or four teams that were involved, but at the same time no teams meet each other and then we just have to focus on winning our match – then we are done.
What will you focus on during the week before the Mjällby match?
– The Kalmar match is one of our absolute best matches we’ve played in the last six months, but unfortunately we don’t score on the chances we have. We create a lot, we win a lot of duels, we have a good passing game.
– The qualitative, scoring goals or hitting the last pass correctly, we can’t do much about that. What we can do something about is that we win the ball high, get into their penalty area a lot, create a lot of scoring chances and don’t concede too much. We can’t do much more. We will continue to pump it.
Billborn continues:
– We have almost three in xG (expected goals) against Kalmar. It’s a bit typical where we are. We have had several such matches before. But we just have to look away from that and keep playing. We’ve chosen to play like this now, we don’t have the margins with us, but we create a lot and don’t concede too much. Statistically, we have to end up on the plus side at some point.
A problem that IFK Göteborg has had for more or less the whole year is injuries and the unavailability of players.
To deal with that, Blåvitt has chosen to reduce the load on a couple of players in recent weeks. Including Laurs Skjellerup, who did not train on Tuesday but will be back on the field later this week.
– We try to be a bit smart there, so that we can play all the cards we have in the deck, concludes Billborn.
The 30th and last Allsvenskan round of the year kicks off together at 3pm on Sunday.
IFK Göteborg’s Final Countdown: Will Blåvitt Escape the Abyss?
Ah, the sweet smell of footballing desperation is in the air! IFK Göteborg played a riveting 1-1 draw with Kalmar FF last Saturday—sounds thrilling, doesn’t it? But here’s the kicker: as soon as they dropped those two precious points, bottom competitors Värnamo, Halmstad, and Norrköping all decided to win their matches and send Blåvitt into a tailspin. What a plot twist! Someone should get a medal for this dramatic saga!
Now, center back August Erlingmark is stepping up with a dose of realism. “I was prepared that we will have to do this ourselves,” he said, which, let’s face it, sounds like the perfect tagline for a football version of Mission Impossible. But let’s also acknowledge the truth of it—counting on others is like hoping to find change in your couch—it’s rare and when it happens, you’re still left with the same old problems.
What’s next for Blåvitt? A tantalizing away match against Mjällby looms large. A win is akin to securing a golden ticket to Allsvenskan 2025. But if they lose or even draw, they might be dragged into the murky waters of qualification—a bit like being told you’re still grounded after you thought you’d done your chores.
Mind Games and Personal Bests
Erlingmark is quite the philosopher, and he’s aware that pressure is as welcome as a surprise tax bill. “It is clear that it is stressful,” he candidly admits. But here’s the kicker: “I focus on myself and my achievements.” Smart man! It’s like saying, “I can’t control the weather, but I can control my umbrella!” He’s learned not to overthink things—good for him! Just don’t overthink it while making a sandwich…!
August also feels a tremendous responsibility for Blåvitt. “I have always felt that,” he states. Aww, bless! He’s basically the caring parent of this football club, ensuring everyone does their homework while also providing a solid pep talk. Someone get him a trophy—maybe a glittery one that says, “Most Likely to Parent a Football Team!”
Psychological Warfare: The Team’s Mental Games
Ola Larsson, Blåvitt’s technical director, also throws his hat into the philosophical ring. He acknowledges the recent results and self-reflects the mantra “We need to focus on doing our thing.” That’s a catchy little number, isn’t it? How many times do you need to repeat that before a team actually *does* do their thing? Let me just say, motivation is great, but they need to find their ‘thing’ fast—sort of like a kid finding their way back to the right class after getting hopelessly lost in school!
Larsson goes on to talk about mindset. “Being in the right place”—aren’t we all just searching for that mental sweet spot? To add fuel to the fire, they’re changing things up by moving coaches closer to players, hoping for some positive reinforcement. This isn’t just a football strategy; it’s practically a new-age therapy retreat! Who needs essential oils when you’ve got Marcus Berg and Magnus Edlund on the sidelines?
Billborn’s Battle Plan
Now, let’s hear from the big guy, Stefan Billborn. His perspective? “There are no teams you can ‘trust.’” Ah yes, let’s take a moment to acknowledge that trust in football is as reliable as a weatherman in April. If you can trust anything here, it’s that all bets are off!
Moving on to the big finale, Billborn insists the crucial goal is “to win our match – then we are done”. It’s almost a motivational poster in the making, just slap on an eagle and a sunset image. And we mustn’t forget that concrete stats reveal they had nearly three expected goals in the last game! That’s like arriving at a buffet and realizing the cake is literally *next door*! Could they please just convert these xG ambitions into real goals and give my heart a rest?
The Final Showdown
As gloom looms over the final round, IFK Göteborg finds itself needing to not only put confidence ahead but also shuffle injured players around like a game of musical chairs at a very disorganized party. Let’s hope they manage to juggle their injuries while keeping a steady resolve! The last match kicks off this Sunday at 3 PM, and who knows? Maybe we’ll witness footballing glory, or at the very least, an entertaining spectacle that will have us all talking!
So, grab your popcorn because this is one ride we won’t want to miss. At the end of the day, whether Blåvitt emerges victorious or left contemplating their life choices, who doesn’t love a good drama — especially when there’s a lovely dose of cheekiness involved?
In a tense and pivotal match last Saturday, IFK Göteborg battled to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Kalmar FF, leaving Blåvitt in a precarious position. Following this result, the team’s fortunes took a turn for the worse as their closest rivals—Värnamo, Halmstad, and Norrköping—all secured decisive victories, further complicating Göteborg’s standings before the final round of the season.
Center back August Erlingmark remains composed despite the mounting pressure. “I was prepared that we will have to do this ourselves,” he stated confidently after Tuesday’s training session at the iconic Ullevi stadium. “When we don’t capitalize on our opportunities against Kalmar, we can’t rely on others to help us out.”
The road ahead poses a significant challenge for IFK Göteborg as they prepare for a crucial away match against Mjällby. A win is imperative and guarantees their spot in Allsvenskan for the 2025 season. However, with the specter of relegation looming, a loss or even a draw could mean they will be forced into a qualification bout, hinging their fate on the outcome of Värnamo’s match against Elfsborg.
Erlingmark emphasized the need for a strong mental fortitude as they head into this critical phase, stating, “We need to have the same mentality as we have had recently. We must work hard, push on and not lose our heads. We’ve played impressively in away matches this year against stronger opponents.” He further acknowledged the burden of stress that comes with their current table position, saying, “It is clear that it is stressful, but we have put ourselves in this situation.”
When asked how he copes with the pressure, Erlingmark replied, “I focus on myself and my achievements. I keep my spirits high while supporting my teammates. I strive to deliver my personal best; it’s the only thing within my control.” Reflecting on past experiences, he admitted, “I’ve previously overthought these situations, but this year I’ve improved my focus.”
Erlingmark concluded with a heartfelt statement about his commitment to the team. “I have always felt a great responsibility for Blåvitt. I know since childhood what it signifies to so many people, including myself.”
Blåvitt’s technical director, Ola Larsson, weighed in on the recent Allsvenskan results, noting, “We are currently in a phase where results have not gone our way. We must concentrate on our own game plan.” He pointed out the clarity in their current situation, asserting, “It is crucial to approach the match at Mjällby with the mindset that victory is our primary objective.”
Larsson highlighted the importance of being in the right mental state ahead of the match, stating, “We have altered our approach in our last ten games. This upcoming match, with its challenging autumn conditions, could potentially favor our style of play.”
In a bid to bolster the team’s mental resilience, IFK Göteborg has opted to bring coaches Magnus Edlund and Marcus Berg closer to the players. This strategic shift took shape during a crisis camp in Strömstad, implemented at the end of August. “We have made numerous changes focused on individualized feedback,” Larsson explained. “Since the camp, we have fortified our defensive strategy.”
He elaborated on the practical impacts of this shift, stating, “We’ve prioritized positive reinforcement for commendable performances, particularly for those stepping into greater leadership roles. The team has been motivating each other extensively on the field.”
Stefan Billborn, head coach of IFK Göteborg, offered insights regarding the results of the latest games. “This season in the Allsvenskan has been unpredictable, as any team can emerge victorious,” he noted thoughtfully. “The only certainty we face now is focusing solely on our match against Mjällby.”
As he looked ahead to the critical matchup, Billborn reflected, “The performance against Kalmar was one of our best in several months, but we failed to convert our chances into goals. We need to maintain our aggressive style, regain possession high up the pitch, and create an abundance of scoring opportunities.”
Billborn also acknowledged the ongoing struggles with injuries within the squad, explaining that in light of this, they’ve chosen to manage player loads carefully. “We are trying to use our resources wisely, ensuring we have all our options available for the decisive game,” he concluded. The final round of Allsvenskan action is set to commence Sunday at 3pm, as all teams vie for crucial points in a season rife with uncertainty.
Rategy. We need to adapt quickly and make sure our players are in the right psychological frame of mind.” He’s alluding to a proactive approach, suggesting that mental readiness might just be their secret weapon against the looming adversity.
On the topic of strategy, head coach Stefan Billborn shed light on the need for unity and trust within the squad. “There are no teams you can ‘trust,’” he stated, encapsulating the absolute unpredictability of football. This honesty about the situation reflects the sentiment that in football, as in life, control is often an illusion, and the unexpected can always shake things up. Billborn stresses the significance of focusing on their own performance, reinforcing that the goal must be singular: “To win our match – then we are done.” It’s a pragmatic approach that cuts through the noise and focuses on what really matters.
As IFK Göteborg prepares for the crescendo of their season, the implications of this match against Mjällby extend beyond mere league standings. A victory secures their presence in the top tier of Swedish football for another year, but a failure to clinch three points places their future in jeopardy, potentially leading them into a significant fight to maintain their status in Allsvenskan. The stakes could not be higher. Fans, coaches, and players alike are anxiously awaiting the outcome, hoping for a triumphant conclusion that transforms desperation into elation.
With the last match scheduled for Sunday at 3 PM, all eyes will indeed be on Blåvitt. It’s the moment that will either define their season as a resilient fight against adversity or a painful chapter best forgotten. So, whether you’re a loyal supporter or just a spectator looking for some drama, don’t miss this showdown—because in football, anything can happen, and this could be the epic finale we’ve all been waiting for!
