As expected, iFixit already got his hands on MacBook Air com chip M3, announced last week, to dismantle it. The website showed the complete step-by-step guide to removing parts from the device, evaluating the ease of this process.

The machine received a rating 5 (out of 10) in terms of repairability, with emphasis on the issue of pairing parts and the lack of a guide for working inside the computer.

One positive factor highlighted in some of the areas of the new MacBook Air was the fact that there wasn’t a lot of glue or adhesives holding the components together. This makes it easier to remove and/or replace them, despite there being a considerable number of screws holding the parts together.

This characteristic is especially positive for changing the battery. No stickers making it difficult to change, just unscrew a few screws to remove the component, making the process easier. The construction, it is worth noting, is similar to the previous model, with no new features in this aspect.

Other parts that can be removed relatively easily and without adhesives include the Touch IDthe doors USB-C it’s at headphone output. A logic board might also be removed just by loosening screws and disconnecting some cables, as well as the trackpad — which is held together with ten screws!

It was also possible to see in the video the construction of the SSD 1Solid-state driveor solid state disk. of the 256GB model, which once once more had two 128GB cells working in parallel. The change allows the disk to have better performance and greater speed, just like the old model with the M1 chip.

Furthermore, the structures of the 13″ and 15″ models are quite similar, differing basically by size. Furthermore, the loudspeakersas antennas and the display — also unscrewing and disconnecting cables.

The rating given by iFixit is provisional in nature, as the site will still test the pairing of the pieces. This refers to the association of components with the devices from which they come, preventing their use in other devices. This rule adopted by Apple is widely criticized — including by iFixit — for hindering the repair of devices, especially by third-party stores.

In any case, the disassembly showed that the facilities in terms of removing components remained in the new generation of MacBook Air. Even though there is the issue of pairing parts, the process of repairing the machine itself is not that difficult.
