O PlayStation Portal went through another disassembly process. This time, the iFixit he was in charge of unraveling the structure of the device and revealing its internal components. Thus, it was possible to evaluate the level of repairability that this device has and, definitely, things are not very positive.

In general, the video with 2 min is 4 sec shows the process, which doesn’t start out too difficult, as there are some parts that are just fitted together and don’t have screws. Then, it’s time to unscrew the laptop’s structure, until you reach an important part and one of the positive points in the repair part: the analogue.

Models equipped on the portal are likely to have drift over time, as with the DualSense of the PlayStation 5. However, the controller version of the Sony console is more difficult to replace the component, as it is soldered to the board, which makes replacement difficult for users without basic soldering skills.

This situation is not repeated on the Portal, which only requires the removal of a few screws for the analogues to be completely replaced, something evaluated as positive by iFixit. Furthermore, other components such as the screen and even the battery are more difficult to repair.

According to the video, the reason for this is the need to remove several parts and screws to finally disconnect the panel. To get to the battery, it is necessary to remove a few more components and a few more screws.

As for the item’s motherboard, removal becomes impossible without damaging the soldering points. Therefore, the user must hope that, at most, only the analogues present any problems in the future.
