A D/A converter and headphone amplifier that has the so-called K2HD technology on board to improve the sound impression – and can be used mobile? That’s exactly what the manufacturer iFi Audio is now launching with the Go Bar Kensei.
iFi Go Bar Kensei: Master quality in CD format
The basic idea of the K2HD technology comes from Japanese sound engineers and was developed back in 2004 – with the aim of giving the Redbook format an even more natural and musical sound by restoring the “rich, natural overtones that were lost during digitization “says Wod Audio, the German distributor of iFi audio components. Said K2HD technology has now been implemented in the iFi Go Bar Kensei.
In addition, the compact converter/headphone amplifier, which weighs only around 65 grams, offers four digital filters to choose from (Bit-Perfect, GTO, Standard and Minimum Phase), as well as two special algorithms for more precise bass reproduction and a wider soundstage.
Interfaces, data rates and performance of the Go Bar Kensei
The data is played exclusively via USB-C, a 16-core XMOS controller handles the signal processing, while a DAC chip from the specialist Cirrus Logic carries out the conversion to analogue. The converted signal can then be tapped via either a balanced (4.4 mm) or unbalanced (3.5 mm jack) headphone output.
The built-in D/A converter can process PCM signals up to 32 bit/384 kHz, DSD up to DSD256 and MQA. The maximum output power is 477 milliwatts, with different output modes available for sensitive headphones and in-ear monitors. By the way: The iFi Go Bar Kensei comes in an elegant full metal housing made of Japanese stainless steel, hence the Asian-looking name.
Availability and price
The iFi Go Bar Kensei is now available at a price of 449 Euro available.
