SwitchBot introduced the S10, a new floor cleaning robot, at this year’s IFA. According to the manufacturer, this is the first corresponding fully automatic device with automatic water filling and draining.

Automatic water tank

The unique selling point that SwitchBot mainly promotes the S10 with is the automatic water filling and draining. This is again a net reduction in user maintenance expenses compared to other floor cleaning robots. Simply connect the water inlet hose from the water station to a corresponding water connection and the outlet hose to a drain – just like in washing machines or dishwashers. In addition to the water station, SwitchBot also offers various adapters that allow connection to different connections in the house.

SwitchBot includes all the parts needed to install inlets and drains.

Once the installation is complete, which the manufacturer says should only take a few minutes, the robot can connect to the water station on its own. The used cleaning water is then automatically drained and replaced with clean water. The water station is relatively small, measuring approximately 39.9 x 16.5 x 10.1 centimeters. This is mainly because it does not have a waste water tank as it empties automatically. In addition to the reduced bulk, this has another advantage: it will not give off any unpleasant odor. SwitchBot thus seamlessly continues its previous concept of automating common household products. The S10 joins a range of smart curtains and door locks.

The water station is relatively small.

Complete floor cleaning

However, SwitchBot promises a lot with its S10, not only in terms of maintenance, but also in the core business of floor cleaning. The first thing to highlight in this regard is that the robot floor cleaner can both vacuum and clean with a damp mop. This sets it apart from classic robot vacuum cleaners. It is equipped with 6,500 Pa suction power and a roller scraper that cleans itself, dries without manual intervention and automatically uses the right amount of cleaning product. SwitchBot thus promises a complete cleaning experience in which users no longer have to do anything manually. Only the dust bag of the vacuum cleaner needs to be changed or emptied manually after approximately 70 days.

The roll-up wiper cleans itself

The Lidar system used and the AI support also ensure particularly effective cleaning. Thanks to these two functions, the cleaning robot measures the entire apartment and automatically detects obstacles. This ensures that it reaches every corner and doesn’t get stuck on chairs or carpet edges. By measuring the entire apartment, it is also possible to clean only certain rooms or to define no-go areas, which are in principle excluded from cleaning.

SwitchBot S10: price and availability

SwitchBot will launch a Kickstarter campaign in October to fund the floor cleaning robot. As part of this, it will be priced at $1,199.99. In addition to the SwitchBot S10, a humidifier will be offered which can be automatically filled by the cleaning robot.
