Supporters of the famous tennis player Rafael Nadal, at least the wealthiest among them, will surely be tempted to get their hands on a collector’s item that risks arousing covetousness.
Indeed, the auctioneer Prestige Memorabilia confirmed in a press release that the auction of the racket used by the former world number 1 during his victory in the final of the 2007 Roland-Garros tournament had started on Tuesday; it will continue online until January 28 and the total amount of sales made should be around $150,000, according to the organization.

If objects that belonged to Novak Djokovic, Ken Rosewall and Roger Federer, among others, will also be available to the highest bidder, it is this famous racket which will constitute the prize of choice. Nadal had it well in hand when he confirmed his triumph over Federer at the French Open. After his victory, he lay down on his back to celebrate on the clay, momentarily letting go of his work tool which had served him proudly in victories in previous rounds of the competition. It was his third career coronation at Porte d’Auteuil.
Before ending up at auction, the racket remained at the Australian Tennis Museum, but the place recently closed its doors.
To return to Nadal, he withdrew from the Australian Open which will begin Sunday evening (Quebec time). The Mallorcan suffered a muscle injury at the Brisbane tournament, his first event on the ATP circuit in almost a year.
