‘If this situation continues, it will have to close’; KSRTC in the Supreme Court against diesel rates

New Delhi: KSRTC has approached the Supreme Court once morest the action of oil companies in charging more than the market price for diesel. In the appeal filed in the Supreme Court, it has been stated that KSRTC will have to close down if this situation continues. In a petition filed in the Supreme Court, KSRTC has sought immediate stay of the High Court verdict upholding the higher rate.

Private bus owners operating in Kerala get diesel at market price. But KSRTC, a public sector undertaking, buys diesel at an extra Rs 20 per liter. This results in a loss of over Rs 20 lakh per day. In an appeal filed in the Supreme Court through advocate Deepak Prakash, KSRTC has stated that it will have to close down if this situation continues.

It is unfair to pay more for diesel than to KSRTC for private vehicles, which provide services to the public even on non-profit routes. The appeal also said that the action of the oil companies was a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution. The corporation’s lawyers are trying to get the petition to the court before the Supreme Court closes for the summer vacation.
