New Delhi ∙ Notice to pay 1.9 crore rupees for the historical monument Taj Mahal. The Agra Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the Archaeological Survey of India asking them to pay a property tax of Rs 1.5 lakh. The notice also states that if the dues are not paid within 15 days, the property will be confiscated.
However, ASI officials explained that property tax is not applicable on historical monuments. As the water is not used for commercial purposes, there is no rule to close the water tank. Water is used to maintain the greenery around the Taj Mahal. This is the first such notice’ – ASI Superintendent Raj Kumar Patel said.
Corporation officials say that a private company has been assigned to determine the tax conditions in the area that includes the Taj Mahal and they may have sent a notice.
