Author of a great season with the Nuggets, Aaron Gordon seems to imagine himself in outfit for the next All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. The boy has ambition… and tells the fans that if selected, he would also present himself at the Slam Dunk contest. Hey, who told him that blackmail is bad?
Let’s start by giving credit where credit is due to Aaron Gordon. The former Magic player is no stranger to the very good season of the Denver Nuggets, still leading the Western Conference. The 27-year-old winger is shooting at 16.5 points per game, an average that makes him the third best scorer for the nuggets. But above all, on an individual basis, the fourth choice of the 2014 Draft achieves his best season in scoring, at global address (59%) and from the Rockies (38%). Adding to this his intact athletic qualities and his length, the crazy dunker has taken on a particularly important role in defense, where he is the best opposing attacker almost every night.
It is nevertheless necessary to recontextualize the performances of the friend AG. Gordon indeed evolves within a franchise of the Nuggets much more competitive than his former team of Disneyland. We really like Evan Fournier and Nikola Vucevic, but it’s still something else to have a double as boss (soon triple?) MVP in the person of Nikola Jokic. The Serbian pivot has few equivalents in the League to make his teammates better.
Add to that the fact that his band includes Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr, who casually attract a lot of attention from opposing defenses, and you now understand in part why Aaron Gordon manages to express himself so well.
All of this put together, does that make a credible All-Star record or not? Well, how to say? It’s not at all once morest you Aaron huh, but hey it would still be a question of dosing a little. Already, not said that there is a second starred player in Colorado despite the first place in the West of breaded chickens, as Jokic is omnipotent.
If that were to happen, it would rather be Jamal Murray who would hold the rope. Next, let’s talk a bit regarding the competition. Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Zion Williamson, Lauri Markkanen, Domantas Sabonis, Paul George, you got it, there are a lot of forwards in the West. We can talk regarding injuries, but even if AG is having the best season of his career and is able to fly very high during dunk contests, that shouldn’t allow him to flex on Instagram with the jersey of the All-Star Game next February.
Nice idea to entice voters for the star game by teasing participation in the Slam Dunk Contest. But hey, it doesn’t matter, the important thing is to try. And who knows, Aaron Gordon may be able to console himself with a ring at the end of the season.
