According to the Independent Electoral Commission, during this review nearly 715,000 new registration applications were received. The IEC says it has identified numerous cases of fraud concerning, in particular, changes of residence. Or even through online procedures: out of 36,000 requests to change voting location made on the internet, only 9,000 were deemed to be regular. Nearly 53,000 deceased people have been removed from the file. Added to this are 517 people who have lost their civil rights.

The Electoral Commission believes that it has obtained a reliable file for the local elections on September 2. Ibrahime Kuibiert Coulibaly, President of the CEI: “ The provisional electoral list has 8 016 796 voters. The ultimate goal of this determination by all of us is to help create a transparent and reliable electoral process, everything is done to avoid arbitrary decisions. »

It was in 2020 that President Gbagbo was removed from the electoral list. President Gbagbo’s lawyer seized the Electoral Commission to hold us accountable. We explained to them that a court decision has been made available to the Commission. Decision in which President Gbagbo is stripped of his civil and political rights. The Plateau court dismissed them. This is how President Gbagbo is not on the list.

“Barely 500,000 new registrants is not enough for a renewal”, indignantly an actor from civil society.

« The communication was not relevant enough for the Ivorians to enlist says David Oueza, from the NGO Tournons la Page: the website was not interactive and did not allow young people’s questions to be answered “, maintains this person in charge.

Without waiting to receive the digital version of the provisional electoral list from the hands of the president of the CEI, the PPA-CI left this meeting. Former Minister Sébastien Dano Djédjé says all bitterness, anticipating a fact: the absence of Laurent Gbagbo on this file. Indeed, following a sentence of 20 years in prison in the so-called BCEAO affair, the former president no longer appears on the electoral list. In debit of the steps started in recent months.

« We note that President Laurent Gbagbo is not on the electoral list, he is among the people who are struck off and that hurts us. My party refuses to associate itself with such injustice says Sébastien Dano Djédjé.

We note that President Laurent Gbagbo is not on the provisional electoral list. He is one of the people struck off and that bruises us. Because a former President of the Republic who, therefore, cannot even be an elector (…) we find that unfair. When it is like that, it calls into question the credibility of the CEI, consequently, the electoral process itself loses its credibility.
