Identifying Early Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease: A Comprehensive Guide to Recognizing the Warning Signs

2023-07-06 21:20:03

Most people know the dangers of Parkinson’s disease (Parkinson’s), but many do not know the symptoms that appear on the patient early, and serve as a warning bell.

And the charity organization “Cure Parkinson” conducted a survey in the United Kingdom, to see if people were able to identify the symptoms of the disease, so that it turns out that most of the participants were only aware of two.

And while regarding one in three adults said they knew someone with Parkinson’s disease, tremors and balance problems were the only signs widely chosen by participants, at 69 and 52 percent, respectively.

Tremors, slowed movement and eye problems, including blurred vision, were other common symptoms of the disease identified by the survey participants.

The most prominent results of the survey

Nearly three-quarters (74 percent) of participants were not aware that depression, anxiety, or pain might indicate Parkinson’s disease. 83 percent do not know that loss of smell is a possible sign, and one that can appear years before other symptoms develop. 66 percent were unaware that temporary inability to move might be an early warning sign. The survey results also identified a common belief that people with Parkinson’s disease suffer from tremors, while it is a frequent sign but not necessarily early onset.

It is noteworthy that the effect of Parkinson’s disease on a person can change from day to day, and even from hour to hour, and each individual experiences differences in how his condition changes or progresses.
