Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said Israeli fighter jets struck Lebanon to proactively eliminate the threat from Hezbollah.
“Some time ago, (the Israeli military) identified the terrorist organization Hezbollah as preparing to fire missiles and rockets into Israeli territory,” he said, as reported by Al Jazeera, Sunday (25/8).
“In self-defense to eliminate this threat, (the Israeli military) struck terror targets in Lebanon as Hezbollah was planning to launch attacks on Israeli civilians,” he added.
“Hezbollah will soon fire rockets and possibly missiles and UAVs into Israeli territory,” he continued.
He added that from next to a civilian house in southern Lebanon, they could confirm that Hezbollah was preparing to launch an attack. A large-scale attack on Israel and at the same time endangering Lebanese civilians.
“We warn civilians who are in areas where Hezbollah operates to immediately flee the danger for their own safety,” he stressed.
The statement came shortly before Israeli media reported that flights to and from Tel Aviv had been suspended due to the security situation. (Z-2)
