Washington, May 16 (Sputnik).- The Idaho state police will help Texas combat drug and migrant trafficking on the US-Mexico border, Texas Governor Greg Abbot announced.
“Idaho will send State Police to support our response to the border crisis and help stop drug and people smuggling,” Abbot posted on his Twitter account.
The governor thanked his Idaho counterpart, Brad Little, for deploying these resources.
“With the help of states like Idaho, we continue to plug the dangerous gaps created by Biden’s open border policies,” he added.
For his part, Governor Little responded on Twitter that “Idaho is proud to support the efforts of the State of Texas to combat fentanyl.”
“The training our team will receive while in Texas will help keep Idahoans safe and save lives,” he said.
The US House of Representatives approved a law on May 11 that allows construction of a wall on the US-Mexico border to resume and broadens the range of crimes that would disqualify certain people from seeking asylum.
The initiative was approved a few hours following the expiration of Title 42, a policy that allowed US authorities to reject immigrants in the interest of public health during the covid-19 pandemic.
The Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, told CNN last Sunday that the number of illegal crossings detected by agents of the Office of Customs and Border Protection decreased by half in the two days following the expiration of the Title 42. (Sputnik)
