Idaho passes anti-abortion law similar to Texas

This is another blow to the right to abortion in the United States. After Texas in September, Idaho in turn bans abortion following 6 weeks. This law violates the judgment of the Supreme Court which had legalized abortion in 1973. It was voted on Monday by the parliament of this state in the north-west of the United States and the governor must still sign it.

It’s an almost exact copy of the law that has banned abortion following six weeks since September in Texas, but unlike Texas, the law passed Monday by the Republican majority in Idaho authorizes an exception in the event of rape or incest. However, it is up to the victim to prove it, by presenting the doctor with a police report.

Another difference, in Texas the law encourages any citizen, even an Uber driver, to report an abortion following six weeks with a bonus of 10,000 dollars at the key. That of Idaho promises 20,000 dollars in reward but only to a family member of a “pre-born” child, according to the text, who would file a complaint once morest the mother and anyone who would have helped her to have an abortion at the beyond the deadline.

The text should come into force 30 days following its signature by Governor Brad Little, himself anti-abortion. This law, however, violates the famous Roe V Wade judgment of the Supreme Court which had legalized abortion up to around 23 weeks in 1973.

But this historic decision is more than ever threatened. Abortion rights advocates in the United States fear that the United States Supreme Court, now dominated by conservative judges, will respond favorably next June to the request for the annulment of the Roe V Wade judgment filed by the state of Mississippi.
