BOISE (IDEA) – The state of Idaho bans sex reassignment surgery on minors. Gov. Brad Little (Republican) has signed a corresponding law. It bans treatment with puberty blockers, chemical castration and removal of the breasts for those under the age of 18.
The state House of Representatives passed the bill by a vote of 58 to 12 in February. In March, a majority in the Senate also voted to pass it. According to the new law, a doctor is punishable, among other things, if he performs operations on minors that lead to sterilization or mutilation, or artificially produces tissue whose genitals do not correspond to the biological sex of the child.
In addition, physicians are prohibited from administering drugs to minors that will cause profound changes to a child’s genitals or cause temporary or permanent infertility, such as: B. Puberty blockers.
Little, in a letter to Idaho House Speaker Mike Moyle (Republican), explained that the new law would protect children with gender dysphoria (the sense of being born the wrong sex) from medical and surgical procedures that might be irreversible might cause damage.
Conservatives for Restrictions
The president of the conservative American Principles Project (APP) think tank, Terry Schilling (Arlington, Virginia), posted a statement on its website thanking Little for signing the law: “It is encouraging that lawmakers across the country Take action to protect children from the predatory transgender industry.”
The vast majority of Americans recognize that children are too young to consent to these procedures, which have lasting, potentially destructive consequences for their health. It is already “a massive scandal” that such “treatments” are offered at all. Parliaments have the right to “put a stop to it”.
“We thank Governor Little and the Idaho Legislature for working to protect their state’s families and children. And we look forward to more states joining them in the coming weeks.”
Background: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and West Virginia had previously banned underage sex reassignment surgery. In contrast, several democratically governed states have lowered the hurdles for performing gender reassignment surgery. These include Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota and Vermont.
