They came without warning, ambushed. And they roused him from his sleep. The pain that Mark Schubert (name changed) felt for the first time one night were excruciating. “It was a bad experience,” says the 35-year-old, who has been in the Immanuel Hospital in Berlin-Wannsee for ten days – because of the same pain. Schubert is a strong young man who exudes a good mood even in his sickbed. He is married, has two children. Until recently he worked in Berlin as a gardener and landscaper.
