Huawei opens registrations for its biggest university technology tournament: the ICT Competition 2024-2025

Huawei, a global infrastructure leader for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and smart devices, announces that registrations are now open for the ICT Competition 2024-2025, one of the largest university technology tournaments in the world. world. In Brazil, registrations are expected from university teams from more than 200 institutions affiliated with the ICT Academy online training program (ICT Academy).

The tournament is divided into four stages: Brazilian (preliminary and national final), Latin American and global, which will be held at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen (China), in May 2025. In all of them, competitors will test their knowledge through tests and practical exams by teams.

The themes are divided into three categories: connectivity networks (such as WLAM, security and datacom), cloud (such as big data and artificial intelligence) and computing (such as openEuler, openGauss and Kunpeng).

The teams are made up of three students and a teacher who participate in lectures, activities and project presentations that are analyzed by experts. Winners receive incentives to continue their research.

“The ICT Competition was created in 2015 to offer computing, science, mathematics and engineering students the opportunity to participate in a global competition that aims to promote and disseminate knowledge in the areas of disruptive technologies such as cloud computing, networks and artificial intelligence”, he explains. Victor Montenegro, director of Education and Social Responsibility at Huawei Brasil, who in the coming weeks will visit several institutions to present the program.

In recent years, Brazil has stood out on the global stage. In the last edition, students from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba (IFPB), the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA) and the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) achieved first places in Shenzhen. “These results show that Brazilian teams compete on equal terms with teams from all over the world. Furthermore, the tournament is an excellent source of employment for Huawei”, adds Montenegro.

The ICT Competition program annually attracts around 170,000 students from two thousand universities and colleges representing more than 80 countries. In the 2024 finals, 160 teams qualified, from 49 countries on five continents.
