After six days of intense exchanges and knowledge sharing, the 34th International Congress of Occupational Health (ICOH 2024) successfully draws its curtains. Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this historic edition will remain engraved in the annals as a major milestone in the field of health and safety at work globally.
Bringing together more than 1,500 participants from all over the world, ICOH 2024 was the scene of a fruitful dialogue between professionals, researchers, academicians, policy makers and representatives of international organizations. During this week, the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech vibrated to the rhythm of exchanges and lively debates, thus marking a significant step forward in the promotion of a safer and healthier working environment for all.
This edition will also be remembered as that of inclusion and diversity. With a record number of more than 321 presentations from the African continent, including more than half from Morocco itself, ICOH 2024 fully reflected the richness and vitality of occupational health research on the continent. This unprecedented representation highlights the commitment of an entire region to actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this crucial area.
Beyond scientific presentations, ICOH 2024 provided a unique space for collaboration and exchange of ideas through an exceptional exhibition, symposia, workshops and meetings. Participants had the opportunity to discover the latest innovations, make valuable connections and forge strategic partnerships that will last well beyond the borders of this congress.
A highlight of this edition will remain the Global Policy Forum, which highlighted the pressing challenges related to health and safety at work in low- and middle-income countries. The exchanges of experiences and strategies shared during this forum promise to catalyze concrete actions aimed at protecting the health of workers in a constantly changing world.
Professor Abdeljalil El Kholti, President of ICOH2024 and MOHA, and Head of the Occupational Health Unit, underlined: “In closing this historic event, we would like to express our deep gratitude to all those who made this possible achievement. As this chapter closes, we look to the future with optimism and determination. May the exchanges and collaborations initiated during ICOH 2024 continue to inspire concrete actions to guarantee a future where health and safety at work are a reality for all.”
“The holding of this event in Marrakech, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, testifies of the growing importance given to these vital issues on a global scale. During this week, we had the unique opportunity to share knowledge, exchange ideas and forge strategic partnerships that will help shape the future of occupational health. The diversity of perspectives and experiences represented here in Marrakech demonstrates our collective commitment to excellence and inclusion,” concludes Professor Seong Kyu Kang, President of ICOH.
