Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo is targeting that Indonesia’s ice skating sport will be one of the mainstay sports that will qualify to compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics.
“We are targeting ice skating to become Indonesia’s mainstay sport in order to qualify for the Winter Olympics,” wrote Dito via the Instagram account @ditoariotedjo, Friday (23/8).
Dito stated this after directly monitoring the implementation of the Asia Open Short Speed Skating Jakarta event held by the Central Board of the Indonesian Ice Skating Federation (PP FISI) at AEON Mall Jakarta Garden City, East Jakarta, Friday (23/8).
The international competition was attended by 12 countries, namely Malaysia, Mongolia, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India.
He appreciated the organization of the event as part of coaching and increasing the flying hours of Indonesian athletes in competing against foreign athletes.
Dito hopes that PP FISI will continue to hold events that can develop the Indonesian short speed ice skating branch and be able to compete on the international stage.

The party is committed to making the event a success so that in the future ice skating can be held regularly like other competitive sports at subsequent PONs.
Suzan said, after the Aceh-North Sumatra PON, his party began preparing athletes to face international championships such as the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China and the 2025 Thailand SEA Games.
