- The second third was particularly exciting: The decisive goal for Finland, however, came in the last third.
PLAYING: That’s it! Despite a courageous performance, the German team lost 3:4 once morest the hosts and reigning world champions Finland. On Monday evening, the DEB selection will continue with the equally difficult opponent USA.

time penalties: | 2 – 4 |
59. Minute: Keeper beam Meier is now outside. The DEB team goes all in in the last two minutes!
58. Minute: Germany tries a lot, but doesn’t get through and therefore can’t book any chances.
55. Minute: The last five minutes are running…
Ice hockey World Cup in the live ticker: Germany conceded a late 4: 3 in Finland
53. Minute: There’s the fourth goal for the Finns! Rantanen’s finish bounces off the post where Mikko Lehtonen lurks in the back and successfully shoots from a tight angle. 4: 3 for the hosts – how does Germany react?
50. Minute: Germany might not use the power play. Run the last ten minutes!
47. Minute: Sallinen sees the next time penalty following an offense once morest Müller, another power play for Germany!
46. Minute: Finland doesn’t get much on the chain, but the next chance for Germany is possible. But the DEB team cannot use a two-on-one situation between Wojciech Stachowiak and Alexander Ehl.
42. Minute: For the third time, the German goalkeeper has to give everything at the beginning of a period. In a one-on-one once morest Kakko, Strahlmeier was able to prevent the Finnish opening goal in a counterattack.
41. Minute: And on we go. What does the last third hold?
40. Minute: That would make the entertaining second third history! Germany continues to challenge Finland as the DEB team just won’t let up. First it was Kai Wissmann who gave Finland a 2-1 lead before Sakari Manninen’s two goals turned the game around for Finland. Germany only equalized once more 18 seconds before the break.
Ice hockey world championship in the live ticker: Finland leads once more – but not for long
39 minutes: What’s going on here? Germany finally takes advantage of the third power play. Peterka puts a deflected puck in front of him and scores with a perfect shot to make it 3:3!
36. Minute: Finland meets once more and once more it’s Manninen! The Northern Europeans take advantage of their superiority in cold blood. Although Rantanen’s shot fails, the puck is deflected directly to Manninen, who stays cool and hits the backhand from the left face-off circle. Well reacted by the double archer.
36. Minute: As far as time penalties are concerned, the score is now 2:2. Moritz Müller was the culprit. Finland outnumbered once more.
35. Minute: A few seconds following the German goal, Sakari Manninen equalizes the Finns 2:2. And that’s surprising given the momentum that was clearly in the hands of the Germans. Kapanen serves the advancing Mammine perfectly, who finishes in the right corner.
Ice hockey championship live ticker: Germany takes the lead for the first time
33 minutes: Germany takes the lead! And that was played well. In the power play, Kastner plays exemplary for Kai Wissmann, who puts a line on Olkinuora’s box from the blue line. The keeper has no chance. 2:1 for the DEB team!
30. Minute: Next time penalty for Finland, this time once morest Teemu Hartikainen, who tripped Leon Hüttl.
30. Minute: Germany sniffs the leadership. Peterka serves Kahun, whose disc slips a bit. Shortly therefollowing, it is Tiffles who wants to outwit the Finland keeper Olkinuora with a shot at the near corner. But here, too, the DEB team narrowly fails.
28. Minute: Peterka is saved following a pass from Tiffles – Finland sees a small penalty in the person of Juho Lammikko. This is Germany’s first power play situation.
26. Minute: The mood in the hall is great, but that obviously doesn’t do much for the German team. Although she wasn’t able to fire a shot in the second period – Finland, on the other hand, already had four – she defended passionately and intelligently blocked the space. It might be a game of patience for Finland.
23. Minute: Ray Meier is in focus once more, he parried strongly once morest Pesonen at the beginning of the second period.
21. Minute: Into the second third! “Let’s go” and “keep up the good work” might be heard from the German players from the players’ tunnel. Now it’s up to the Harold Kreis players to bring that to the table.
20. Minute: That’s it for the first third. The German team can be very satisfied, especially with the last few minutes. Finland started under a lot of pressure in the first few minutes, but following the home team’s first goal, they mightn’t find it once more.
Ice hockey world championship in the live ticker: Shortly before the end of the first period, the compensation falls
18 minutes: GOOOAAAL! After almost 80 minutes, the first goal of this World Cup tournament falls for the German team. It was Marcel Noebels! The DEB team wins the face-off in the attacking zone, Fischbuch lays it down on Noebels. This finishes immediately, with the puck falling over the stick of Finland’s Miika Koivisto past the keeper Jussi Olkinuora into the net.
17. Minute: Peterka places the puck on Tiffles – and he pulls it off. But the attempt only goes to the external network.
16. Minute: Germany does not do badly on the defensive, but the chances cannot yet be used. The DEB team plays their way in front of the goal via storm, but the finish is missing. Justin Schütz had also had a chance before, but a Finnish defender was able to clear it.
13. Minute: The Finns also took the lead in Friday’s 4-1 defeat by the USA, which shouldn’t be repeated today. The northern Europeans show that in the minutes following the lead. Again and once more they present the Germans with difficult tasks with fast combinations.
Ice hockey world championship in the live ticker: Finland takes the lead following ten minutes
10 minutes: After ten minutes the spell is broken. Germany gives Kakko a little bit of space, who puts it down nicely to Joel Armia, who can overcome Strahlmeier with a well-aimed shot.
7. Minute: Again the mega chance through Kakko in the power play! The Finn reappears in front of Strahlmeier following a nice interaction, but the goal doesn’t want to fall yet. As a result, the hosts continue to press. But Germany survives the outnumbered situation. Marcel Noebels was handed a two-minute penalty for an offense once morest Joel Armia.
5. Minute: The Finns get off to a stormy start, Strahlmeier should be warmed up by now. Then Germany suddenly have an opportunity, but John-Jason Peterka, who wants to serve, doesn’t have enough control over the puck – and the chance is gone.
3. Minute: DEB keeper Dustin Strahlmeier is challenged for the first time and fends off an attempt by Kaapo Kakko! There are indications in which direction things might go here.
1. Minute: And off we go in Tampere! The German team not only has to come up once morest the world champion and Olympic champion today, but also once morest an entire stadium.
Update, 7:19 p.m.: Both teams step onto the ice! Dinner is served.

Ice hockey World Cup live today: Germany challenged following opening defeat once morest Finland
Despite the lost start, Kreis encouraged his protégés. “The team played on an equal footing with Sweden and that should continue tomorrow,” the national coach summarized the close defeat. He lacked determination in front of goal, said the German-Canadian. “That’s definitely something we want to take with us into tomorrow’s game: more shots on goal, more traffic,” said the coach.
Moritz Seider from the Detroit Red Wings was also satisfied with the first game. “That’s a very, very good foundation that we have laid there. We haven’t trained together that long. But it went incredibly well,” said the 22-year-old, “we annoyed a very, very good team for a long time.”
Ice hockey World Cup in the live ticker: DEB opponents Finland also lost their opening game
