With two teams in Olympic form, the kick-off might not have been given by anyone other than Mathilde Gremaud. Returning golden and tanned from Beijing, the Gruérienne dropped the first puck of the derby between Friborg and Geneva. In a carnival atmosphere. yet it was the Eagles who lit the first firecracker. After a foot-to-earth start from Gottéron, the Genevans broke the atmosphere once morest the course of the game. Once is not custom, Marco Maurer managed a brilliant pass to launch Tyler in the back of the Friborg defense. Unstoppable shot from No 95 and a big cold snap in a BCF Arena which, full as an egg and which had paid, before the start of the match, a beautiful tribute to the supporter who died on Wednesday during the derby once morest LHC.

Dominated in all areas of the game, the Eagles might really consider themselves very well paid. The safe set up by Jan Cadieux seemed for a long time to be inviolable. A third, almost two. But by dint of bending in front of an impeccable Gauthier Descloux, everything ended up shattering. And rather four times than one. In 2 minutes and 43 seconds, Freiburg blew up a surprisingly passive Geneva team. Diaz, Walser, Desharnais and Rossi scored the goals. A wave for some, a shipwreck for others. Put on the ropes by a leader who has never seemed so good in his skates, Geneva was once once more ridiculed during an improvised boxing match. After the lesson given by Andres Ambühl to Tanner Richard on Tuesday, this time it was Dave Sutter who put his fists on the i’s by distilling an uppercut to the yet solid jaw of the Geneva defender.

This episode, which might have seemed innocuous, somewhat brought the Fribourgeois out of their hitherto perfect match. Geneva therefore took the opportunity to make a highly improbable return. It was Noah Rod, on the power play, who breathed new life into his team. A success followed a few minutes later by that of Tanner Richard. The Eagles then benefited from two minutes of double numerical superiority. But the leaders at the end of the lake totally failed, failing even to worry an otherwise impeccable Reto Berra.

And while Geneva might still believe it, an incredible bench error closed the deal when Jan Cadieux sent in a sixth before Gauthier Descloux even left his goal. Penalized for overstaffing, the Eagles then conceded a fifth goal signed Desharnais.
