Ice hockey: Skellefteå beat Frölunda after an improbable semi-final

It was Skellefteå that started today’s match the best. Already in the second minute, Lars Johansson left a rebound on Dylan Sikura’s shot, and Jonathan Johnson took advantage of that to make it 1-0.

But the happiness didn’t last longer than five minutes. In the powerplay, Mikael Ruohomaa won a draw and found Jere Innala. Frölunda’s goal-stealer scored a perfect hit and scored his seventh playoff goal.

Target party

Then it went quickly. First, Skellefteå took back the lead thanks to Linus Lindström, but barely a minute later Tom Nilsson equalized. Nilsson stood for a solo performance when he rounded the entire defense and made it 2-2.

But the every-two-goal principle continued and with barely fifteen minutes left in the match, the score was 4-5. Then Henrik Tömmernes looked to equalise, but the goal was ruled out following review.

Unlikely own goal

It would get worse for Frölunda. Christian Folin suffered a concussion when he slotted in 4-6 in his own goal in front of a shocked home crowd. But that didn’t stop Frölunda. Albin Sundin and Ruohomaa scored two straight goals and took the match to extra time.

There, Skellefteås Johnsson stepped forward and became a great match hero.

Skellefteå is now 3-1 in matches and is one victory away from the second straight SC final.

– Semi-final and the streak, there is nothing better. Wonderful feeling, says Johnsson.
