Excellent news in the Lausanne HC camp: the foot of defender Martin Gernat is better. As a reminder, the best rear of the Lions was injured (a cut) during a match in Friborg on October 15th. He had not replayed since and missed the last three games of the Lions, all lost.

Number 28, who can now put on his skates normally once more, trained for the first time on Thursday. “He will play on Sunday, assured coach John Fust. He will certainly have to grit his teeth because of the pain which has not yet completely disappeared…”

The return of the Slovak is timely for the LHC, plagued by major concerns at the level of his rearguard where Andrea Glauser, Fabian Heldner (injured) and Joël Genazzi (suspended) will not be available on Sunday in Zurich. The case of Lukas Frick, released during the third period of the last match once morest Davos, remains open. The captain has been training with his teammates but is still in ‘return to play protocol’ following a concussion.

In the new ZSC arena

Despite Gernat’s return and Frick’s possible appearance on Sunday at the ZSC Lions’ new ice rink in Altstetten, the LHC remain defensively understaffed. Cory Emmerton might once more lend a hand, like last Saturday once morest HC Davos, if necessary.

But as once morest Graubünden, Villardou Igor Jelovac can already expect to skate a lot on Sunday. Against Davos, the solid back of the LHC had exploded the counters with more than 28 minutes spent on the ice!
