For Amar* and his friend, the evening in the club promised to be pleasant and festive in March 2020. Everything was going well until the moment when the 26-year-old young man living on the Vaud Riviera saw his girlfriend dance with another man. Mad with rage, he used the ice cubes in the champagne bucket in front of him to target the young woman before shoving her and knocking her down.

“We are both going to die”

Two months later, for a story of deception, he slapped his girlfriend before scaring her at the wheel by telling her: “We are both going to die”. Despite this atmosphere marked by violence, fits of jealousy, threats and intimidation, the two young people continued their relationship. Until February 13, 2021, when Amar threw a tantrum once more. After the episode of the ice cubes in the champagne bucket, this time it was the hydroalcoholic gel that he used to aim for his girlfriend’s face. A rampage of violence ensued: punches and elbows hit the victim’s upper body.

The young woman finally filed a complaint. Amar was remanded in custody from February 13 to 14. But a month later, for a reason not stated in the prosecutor’s criminal order, the victim decided to withdraw his complaint. Without much consequence. As qualified assault and qualified threats were prosecuted ex officio, the investigation continued. After his 26 hours of preventive, Amar was registered in the domestic violence prevention center in Lausanne. But the young man decided to unilaterally put an end to the follow-up.

Amar received a 60-day fine of 30 francs, suspended for three years. The 1125 francs of legal costs were charged to him.
