Mumbai: Thiruvananthapuram Greenfield Stadium may also be the venue for the ICC ODI World Cup to be held in India this year. Karivattam Greenfield Stadium is also in the short list of World Cup venues released by BCCI. There will be an official announcement about this after the IPL.

The shortlisted venues are Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Dharamshala and Chennai. Training matches will be held here. India’s league matches will be played at only seven of these venues. If the Indian team reaches the final, there will be more than one match for India in Ahmedabad.

The ‘classic’ India-Pakistan match of the World Cup is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the first time since 2016 that the arch-rivals are facing each other on Indian soil. Therefore, BCCI is trying to reach maximum number of spectators. With a seating capacity of one lakh, Narendra Modi Stadium is the largest stadium in the country.

The ODI World Cup will start on October 5 this year. Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium will also host the India-Australia match in the World Cup. It is reported that most of the matches of the Pakistan team may be played in Chennai and Bangalore due to security reasons. Eden Gardens in Kolkata is also being considered as a venue. Kolkata and Guwahati will host most of Bangladesh’s matches. This is to reduce the travel distance for those coming from Bangladesh to watch the match.

It is reported that the Indian team has requested the BCCI to allow matches against Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa at venues that support spinners.
