ICC appointed the judges who will carry out the investigation of crimes against humanity in Venezuela

This Wednesday the Presidency of the International Criminal Court (ICC) the judges ratified Reine Alapini-Gansou, María del Socorro Flores Liera y Lulia Motoc in the investigation into the alleged commission of crimes against humanity in Venezuela.

According to the information published on its website by the ICC, the cases brought forward by this body on Venezuela in the “Venezuela I” and “Venezuela II” files will be assigned to Preliminary Trials Chamber I, which will be made up of the magistrates.

Who are these judges?

The judge Reine Albini-Gansou Before joining the ICC in 2018, she spent 12 years at the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR), and also served as Special Rapporteur on defenders in Africa (2005-2009 and 2012-2017).

As for Socorro Flores Liera refers, before belonging to the ICC, he had a successful career in the Mexican Foreign Service (2017-2021), in the same way he worked as Mexico’s representative before the UN Office and others in Geneva. Additionally, in 2020 she held the position as Vice President of the DD Council. HH.

Meanwhile, Lulia Motoc, She served as a judge of the European Court of Human Rights. HH. (Tedh, 2013-2023), in addition to working as an Inter Law professor. She also served as UN Special Rapporteur for the Democratic Republic of the Congo on crimes against humanity and war.
