Audi has officially announced that it will join the Formula 1 World Championship from 2026, as a manufacturer of power units, in accordance with the regulations for new engines recently approved by the World Motor Sport Council. The announcement came during a press conference attended by Mohamed bin Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation, ahead of the start of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.
Bin Sulayem welcomed Audi’s decision to participate in the most important championship competition in the world of speed racing, saying: “This announcement represents a quantum leap for Formula 1 racing and for the FIA. I would like to thank all the parties who contributed to this achievement, as this announcement is a testament to the hard work done by all stakeholders to develop the new regulations for the power unit for 2026, which in turn paved the way for new participants, such as Audi, to join the most prominent championship In the world of motorsports.”

It is noteworthy that the FIA is currently developing an environmental strategy to become net zero by 2030, and all FIA championships will be organized using alternative energy starting in 2026.
