“IATA”: Increased demand for air freight globally during July

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed an increase in demand for air freight globally during last July, despite the challenges represented by the decline in global trade volumes.

IATA said in a statement yesterday that global trade declined for the third consecutive month in June, by 2.5% on an annual basis, reflecting the slowdown in demand and current economic challenges.

Director General of the International Air Transport Association, Willie Walsh, said: “Compared to July 2022, demand for air freight was essentially flat, and we consider these numbers a significant improvement, as the trend of strengthening demand that began in February continues.”

Airlines in the Middle East recorded a 1.5% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes last July.
