The plea contends that the life sentence awarded to gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan is for the rest of his life. This cannot be interpreted as merely a sentence of imprisonment for 14 years. In his petition filed in the Supreme Court, he said, ‘When life sentence is awarded instead of death penalty, then it has to be strictly followed as directed by the court. It cannot be cut.
Bihar government released 27 prisoners along with Anand Mohan
Let me tell you, Anand Mohan’s name is included in the 27 prisoners, who have spent more than 14 years in jail, in a notification issued by the state law department earlier this week to release them from jail. The sentence was reduced following the state’s Grand Alliance government amended the Bihar Jail Rules on April 10, while earlier there was a ban on premature release of convicts involved in the murder of a public servant on duty.
