International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretary General Rafael Grossi said on the 9th that it was “reasonable” for neighboring countries to show great interest in Japan’s plan to release radioactively contaminated water treated at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Secretary-General Grossi met with members of the Democratic Party of Korea that day and said, “It is reasonable that this issue we are facing is attracting so much attention. ” he said.

North Korea also criticized the IAEA’s support of Japan’s plan as “unjust” and argued it displayed a double standard, citing the IAEA’s move to curb North Korea’s nuclear program.
