A girl in Rhode Island, USA has asked police to test the DNA of a cookie in a bid to prove the existence of Santa Claus.
According to the Cumberland Police Department, the girl sent a letter asking them to analyze the DNA of a half-eaten cookie and carrot on Christmas Day.
“I took a sample of a cookie and carrots that I left for Santa Claus,” the child wrote in the letter. “I was wondering if you might take a DNA sample to see if Santa is real?”
Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson reportedly instructed his Investigative Division to forward the girl’s ‘evidence’ to the Rhode Island State Department of Health – Forensic Science Unit, so to analyze them.
“This young lady clearly has a keen sense of truth and investigative procedure and has done an outstanding job of packaging her evidence for submission. We will do everything we can to provide him with answers,” Benson said on Facebook.
The police would not release the girl’s name.
But CNN managed to track her down. The media contacted the mother to meet her.
“She is still a bit skeptical. She’s always looking for the facts,” Alyson Doumato said of her daughter, Scarlett.
“I listen to crime shows. I thought it would be cool to be a detective. I wish Santa Claus existed,” said the 10-year-old girl, who is still awaiting results.
