The favorite of millions, the “great old woman” Tatyana Peltzer continued to live to the fullest, even when she was over 80. The actress still smoked a lot, drank strong coffee and allowed herself alcohol. But she was in good physical shape – every morning she started with gymnastics. But the brain began to refuse to serve its mistress. June 6 marks 119 years since the birth of Tatyana Ivanovna. She left our world at 88.
“No need! Don’t take Peltzer out of the show.”
“No one loves you except the people!” That is exactly what the actor Boris Novikov once said in his hearts to Peltzer. This, of course, was an exaggeration. Yes, Tatyana Ivanovna was distinguished by her contradictory nature.
Some called her “grandmother-scandal” – the actress went into conflict easily, she might screw in a strong word. However, she was also unusually sincere. She agreed to shoot with unknown directors, explaining: “We need help.”
And the people really loved Peltzer. Her participation in a film or play was already, to a certain extent, the key to success. In the cinema, Tatyana Ivanovna has played more than a hundred roles, mostly comedic ones. The main ones among them are few, but who in the Soviet Union did not know Peltzer?
Mossovet Theatre, Satire Theatre, Lenkom. Almost 50 images were embodied by the actress on stage. Whom she just was not – Mother Courage, Marceline, Manefa, Krupskaya.
Old age Tatyana Ivanovna met energetic, desperate and … very lonely. She was married only once, and even then not for long. She mightn’t have children. She survived not only her parents, but also her younger brother.
The last time the audience saw the artist in the frame was three years before her death – in the children’s film “Prince Luck Andreevich”. The problems became apparent when the actress turned 85. In the evenings, she studied theatrical roles in the company of her housekeeper, but this was of little use.
Once, in the absence of an actress at a rehearsal at Lenkom, the question was raised: “What to do with Peltzer? She doesn’t remember the text at all.” 36-year-old Alexander Abdulov stood up to defend the “great old woman”: “Don’t! Don’t take Peltzer out of the show. I will speak for her.”
“Tatyana Ivanovna admired his beauty”
In the legendary “Memorial Prayer” according to Grigory Gorin, the heroine Berta Peltzer had few words anyway. Abdulov played her son Menachem. Gorin specially created the role for Tatyana Ivanovna so that she might go on stage. Alexander touchingly took care of the elderly artist.
Helped to move, elegantly smoothed out awkward moments. It was almost imperceptible to the outside eye that Peltzer had big memory problems.
The writer, playwright and journalist Gleb Skorokhodov said in his memoirs: “A touching relationship of tender friendship developed between them, like between a son and a mother – they used to say regarding each other: “son”, “mother”. Tatyana Ivanovna admired his beauty, timidly admired, rooted for his failures and successes. He became her last affection. Saved her from despair.
The audience was waiting for Peltzer’s performance, greeted her with such a standing ovation that they had to “slow down” the performance. However, the situation kept getting worse. “Her last visits to Lenkom were without going on stage. She just came to sit in the dressing room, breathe the theatrical air, ”Gleb Anatolyevich shared.
“My friend has come!”
Shortly before her death, the elderly actress showed suspicion and persecution mania. She had to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. Painful memories did not let go of Peltzer’s colleague Olga Aroseva:
“We are with the director of our theater … we are going there. We are not allowed. We go to the head physician, and he says that the patient is very aggressive and does not recognize anyone. I see Tatyana running, rushed into my arms, and the doctor asked: “Well, who came to you?” Her eyes darted pitifully, she thought for only a second and confidently, even proudly said: “My friend has come!”
At the end of the meeting, she clung to me quite helplessly and whispered: “Olga, take me away from here!” We all, the director of the theater, she and I, sobbed out loud – it was so unbearable to leave her.
“Lenkom” did everything possible for Tatyana Ivanovna – she was transferred to the best hospital. In July 1992, Peltzer died following a heart attack. Her nurse, Anna Kukina, stated:
“I went to her, washed her, changed her linen every day, cooked, as she liked, steamed herculean porridge. Lenkom gave me money for this. They say she left quietly. Somehow she tossed and turned, and then calmed down. I didn’t call anyone.”
