“I was held incommunicado for 12 hours and my father was arrested”: Daniel Barreda

MEXICO CITY.- Daniel Barredasenator from Campeche for Movimiento Ciudadano, reported having been detained for 12 hours in his home state so that he could not attend the vote of the reform of the Judiciary.

The senator, who was the last of the opposition senators to confirm his attendance and vote against the reform, was the only one absent from a session of almost 12 hours in the Senate of the Republic that ended with the approval of the ruling.

Regarding his absence, he said that it was because his father was detained and held incommunicado by authorities in Campeche, which is why he did not travel to Mexico City to vote on the reform.

Daniel Barreda denounces his arrest in Campeche

At a press conference on Wednesday, a week after the vote on the reform, Barreda said that he missed the session in Congress due to the arrest of his father.

The MC member said he was held for 12 hours in the oral trial room of the Campeche Prosecutor’s Office and threatened to start a lawsuit against his father if he tried to leave.

We recall that the morning of the discussion of the reform, his party colleagues denounced the alleged arrest of the senator and a coordinator of Citizen Movement in the entity.

“For almost 12 hours I was held incommunicado and given the condition that if I left the place, my father would be prosecuted.”

In his press conference, he said that he had gone to the courtroom because he had been told that he had been brought in for a court proceeding, after which neither of them were able to leave.

Barreda said that during all this time he was not allowed to communicate with any senator from his party or from any other parliamentary group.

“After that time, they let us out around 10 pm, once the Senate of the Republic was about to conclude the vote on the particulars.”

The member of the MC indicated that his father was with the deputy Paul Arce, the second member of his party whose illegal arrest was reported.

There was no communication with Morena

Daniel Barreda also denied having communicated with the Morena senators Adam Augusto LopezPresident of the Political Coordination Board, and Gerardo Fernandez NoronaPresident of the Board of Directors.

Both former candidates for the presidential candidacy of Morena stated in the Plenary that they had spoken with the senator and confirmed that he was not arrested and was in the Mexico City.

On the day of the vote, Barreda was finally located by media in Campeche leaving a courtroom in the state.

According to her statement today, Barreda was in Mexico City when she received a call from her mother informing her of her father’s arrest, this early in the morning of the vote.

The senator took a flight to Merida, Yucatan at 06:00 am and from there he moved to Campechewhere he remained until evening.
