“I want to leave Genk with a trophy”

Genk surprised everyone this week by suddenly announcing the transfer of Maarten Vandevoordt. The 20-year-old goalkeeper will only be transferred to RB Leipzig in two years.

A very special transfer since the Devil will join the German team in 2024. “I did not finish here. RB Leipzig want me to develop further here. Gaining more experience is simply the biggest point of work for me. We continue to work hard every day. And I want to leave Genk with a trophy. Nothing less,” Maarten Vandevoordt told Het Belang van Limburg.

Though a few better seasons than this will have to follow. “You can say it once more. It was a weak year for the whole of Genk. I myself had to take a lot of criticism. Logical, because the expectations were much higher. The balls that came in last season, only have not done so this season. We still want to catch up in Playoffs 2. We will have to put the package in Ghent next weekend. It will be all or nothing. In any case, I have learned from this year. Especially mentally , this season has made me stronger.”
