“I want to go on vacation”

Willy wants to go on vacation with his caravan. Unfortunately, the Belgian is in a delicate situation. As indicated HBVLhis new caravan passed the technical inspection in East Flanders, but was recently refused in Flemish Brabant “because of the tow bar”.

“Yet the seller gave me a green certificate two years ago. It was issued by the Brakel station during the pre-sale inspection. And the paper says the trailer was equipped with a tow bar. But according to the Diest station manager, I was sold a non-compliant caravan. The seller tells me that my caravan is compliant. What must I do now ? I want to go on vacation,” laments Willy.

Our colleagues have asked for the opinion of the center of expertise for vehicle control (Goca). Their answer is clear and clear: “We are of the opinion that this towing device on a caravan is not authorized”. But then, how was the caravan able to pass Brakel’s technical inspection? Probably because the seller passed it without the tow bar.

Caravan-Expo nevertheless indicates that a simple sticker might solve Willy’s concern. “The sticker indicates that the drawbar can only be loaded with 75 kilos (…) His problem with the inspection station will then be definitively resolved”.
