The 2023-2024 Mogul Ski World Cup will be contested without the 2018 Olympic champion, who announced on Wednesday that she was taking a break from the circuit.

Regenerate to get off to a good start next season, with the World Championships in 2025, then the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games in 2026 in line. Perrine Laffont, gold medalist in Pyeongchang in 2018 and holder of nine crystal globes , announced on Wednesday, November 15, that she would not participate in the World Cup this winter. The Ariégeoise, present on the circuit since 2014, explained her decision at a press conference on Thursday.

You announced that you would be taking a break this winter, do you feel any relief following this announcement?
Perrine Laffont: The decision was not easy to make. I am a competitor and I love what I do on a daily basis, but we have to see the long-term objectives with 2025 and 2026. In recent seasons, it was difficult to do big training periods with the lack of snow , and I want to use next winter for that. Then there was a circuit this winter that I didn’t find very consistent in the evolution of my performance. I think I’ll miss competing a little bit, but it’s something I need to do. I am at peace with this decision, it came from me and it was taken with the staff.

Is it more of a mental or physical decision?
It encompasses both. We take everything into account when we set long-term strategies. I want to arrive in 2025 and 2026 with a lot of mental freshness. I have been playing the general classification for seven years. It takes impulse, it represents a lot of stress. There is a regeneration process following each season to start from scratch, and they want me to have a longer recovery game for 2025-2026.

Has the idea of ending your career crossed your mind?
No not at all. Even though I finished the season very tired, it’s not something that crossed my mind because I’ve had a new staff since the end of the Olympic Games, and I had a great time last winter. to evolve with this new framework. Then I completely love my sport so I haven’t considered stopping.

You might miss the competition, what are you going to do to compensate?
Yes, I might miss it, but I really like creating the lack with sport and competition. This is what I already did following each winter, I cut it completely and started once more when I felt like it. It’s this feeling that we want to create, to have the knife between our teeth even more for the winters to come.

My track record is done so to speak. Now, what happens to me will only be a bonus, and I know that I need freshness to perform well. For the moment, I still have two to three weeks of large blocks of physical training before getting back on skis. I hope there will be snow for skiing nearby in early December, then I will attack the moguls once more around December 8 or 9 at Alpe d’Huez, and my winter will be punctuated by the conditions in France.
