In the midst of the controversy that was generated by the expiration of the concessions of the hydroelectric plants, the Secretary of Energy of the Nation, Flavia Royón, ratified the position of the Government that they return to the control of the national State. He also assured that the objective is for the provinces to participate in decision-making and for that they contemplate a director for each jurisdiction.

“I perfectly understand the noise that this has caused, but the infrastructure is national. One thing is the resource and another the center itself. The plants were built with resources from all Argentines. The law establishes that, when the concession ends, it reverts to the national State”, remarked Royón.

The governor-elect of Neuquén, Rolando Figueroa, met yesterday with the head of the Energy portfolio and with the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa to agree on a working group and define the future of the plants.

He pondered hydroelectric generation because it is “relevant” in the current agenda, not only because it is a clean energy source, but also because it is “strategic” to cover demand peaks and for the management of water resources. Precisely this last point was the axis that was addressed in yesterday’s meeting with Figueroa.

A director is contemplated for each of the provinces.

Royón, who participated today in a forum organized by Econojournal, He assured that it is the “will” of the national government that the provinces are part of decision-making.

«A director is contemplated for each of the provinces“, he pointed out, without further details. He also acknowledged that “there are parameters” of prices and fees that must be “corrected” and that it is part of the agenda that is discussed with the provincial authorities.

«Although I am from the province and I am convinced of federalism (…) one participates in an integrated system. No matter how much you have the hydroelectric, you clearly have a service every day of the year, 24 hours a day, and the cost of the system is also an average of another source that is generating in another part of the country,” he concluded.
