If there is one thing that characterizes Federico Gutiérrez, it is that he does not hesitate to point out and pursue the bosses and criminals who believe they hold power in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley.

That feisty personality, over the years, earned him powerful enemies in criminal structures, both from the Envigado Office and the Clan del Golfo.

Even so, The National Protection Unit (UNP) decided to remove half of its security detail leaving him and his family at the mercy of organized crime.

“We have already received the UNP resolution dismantling our security by 50 percent. They will see. I will continue to speak here. What else can we do if the UNP is a government entity? the president asked.

However, he sent a strong message to President Gustavo Petro.

“I do want to state that, If something happens to our family and me, it is the responsibility of the Petro government. and President Petro in property (…) Ready, do it. Don’t worry. I see how I take care of myself and my family,” Gutiérrez expressed while assuring that even so, they are not going to silence him.

‘This is very serious’

One of the first to express solidarity with Mayor Gutiérrez was Governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, who described the UNP’s decision as extremely serious.

“This is very serious. I send a message of solidarity to Mayor Federico Gutiérrez and his family. The National Government must guarantee their protection. The security of citizens and leaders has no ideology,” Rendón expressed on his X account.

Gutiérrez, for his part, reiterated that he did not understand how it is that, while the opposition’s security measures are being reduced, Well-known Colombian “criminals” travel around escorted in UNP armored trucks.

“They try to threaten the opposition leaders in Colombia by dismantling security schemes, but, yes, The worst criminals have their security measures reinforced and are also given a license to commit crimes,” he concluded.
