“Eight months later, I see the video playing over and over once more on the television showing my brother being pushed to death and I am shocked, I shudder” says the brother of Antonis Karyotis following the prosecutor’s proposal to bring the four defendants to trial, including the governor to whom fraud is attributed.
The close relatives of the victim are asking from the first moment for justice in the memory of their own man. Nikos Kargiotis spoke to MEGA expressing the desire for justice for his lost brother.
“The case has taken the path of Justice and I believe that those involved will be punished accordingly. I want my brother to be vindicated and the accused to be tried for this crime,” he said, among other things.
He added: “I believe in Justice and I appreciate that the four members of the Blue Horizon crew who threw Antonis from the ship will be punished exemplary and my brother’s memory will be vindicated. We miss Antonis a lot and not only in us, but in the whole region because he was such a good boy and everyone loved him”.
Finally, he referred to the accused saying that they have not contacted him to express their regret for what happened: “All this time not one of the people involved or their families have called me to ask for an apology. Eight months later, I see the video of my brother being pushed to death playing over and over on TV and I am shocked, I shudder.”
The referral according to the prosecutor’s proposal
The master is cited, as reported, for dangerous interference with the traffic of a ship, which resulted in death, and for attempted serial care. He is accused of giving the green light for the ship to sail with an open catapult, although this is not permitted by safety regulations, and of falsely reporting, with the intention of covering up, that a passenger had fallen overboard.
The prefect who appears to be pushing Antonis to his death is indicted for the crime of premeditated murder, allegedly committed with intent and abuse of power.
As a result of his repulsions, according to the prosecutor’s proposal, Antonis Kargiotis finally fell into the void, found himself in the sea and lost his life. It is emphasized that he used violence that was not necessary to maintain the order and safety of the ship.
The lieutenant is also on trial for complicity in manslaughter. It is emphasized that he remained inactive while he had direct visual contact with the ship’s catapult and what was unfolding, that he did not take any action to save Antonis and that he did not immediately inform the master so that the latter might give an order to stop the engines .
The prosecutor of Piraeus recommends to the competent Council of Misdemeanors that the sailor also be referred to trial for complicity in intentional homicide and abuse of power.
He is accused of having, at least in the beginning, used violence once morest Antonis as he pulled him towards the pier and then when the 36-year-old was found in the sea, of remaining inactive.
