I promise to form a strong and balanced government

The Iraqi Prime Minister-designate pledged Muhammed Shiaa Al-SudaniToday, Thursday, by presenting a strong government formation capable of building the country.

In a tweet on his Twitter account, Al-Sudani expressed his thanks to the people’s representatives who gave him the confidence to assign him to form the government.

He also added, “I promise the Iraqis that I will live up to their expectations by presenting the cabinet formation as soon as possible, and that it will be a strong government capable of building the country, serving the citizens, maintaining security and stability, and building balanced international relations.”

Al-Sudani’s assignment came after the Iraqi parliament elected Abdul Latif Rashid as president of Iraq, during a session held today.

In turn, the head of the caretaker government, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, congratulated Al-Sudani for assigning him to form the new government.

Al-Kazemi called on the political forces to cooperate with the Sudanese Shiites in the task of forming the government of Iraq.

The United States also expressed its aspiration to cooperate with the new President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani.

Meanwhile, the French embassy in Iraq called for the formation of a government that would respond to the people’s demands, expressing its readiness to work with the Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.

Crisis rages

It is noteworthy that Iraq has witnessed, since last year, a raging political crisis between the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr and the “coordinating framework” (which includes the State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki, the Al-Fateh Alliance, and other pro-Iran factions), which has so far prevented the election of a president or the formation of a government. .

The dispute has worsened further since July 2022, with the two most prominent sides of the dispute taking to the street and their sit-in in the center of Baghdad. To reach its climax later with the start of the Sadrist movement’s demand for the dissolution of the House of Representatives and the holding of early legislative elections in order to move the country on the path of reforms in light of its opponents’ rejection of this approach, and their insistence on forming a government with their candidate and electing a president before any new elections.
