Between August 2018 and April 2022, Anthony Limbombe will only have worn the yellow and green jersey 38 times for 4 goals and 3 assists. It is however the most expensive transfer of the club, 8.5 million euros. A few days following the termination of his contract with FC Nantes, the 27-year-old Belgian confided in the reasons for his failure.

“I feel liberated, I’m taking my career back in hand,” Limbombe told Ouest France. “We didn’t take the time or show the desire to really get to know me. I think we didn’t understand each other. I feel like they just put me there and that would have might have been elsewhere too. (…) In Nantes, I never had the feeling of being part of a project. I can finally do things as I see fit. I also think that my departure relieves the club. We had reached an impasse and it was no longer livable for both parties. I am happy with the outcome, even if I have had very difficult months. Even if the legal commission has given me reason, I know also that it didn’t solve the problem, that I was not welcome in the pros. It’s never good to come back thanks to a legal decision, it leaves traces. And I had a contract until 2024 . We had to find a solution.”

According to the former Club Brugge player, the price of his transfer did not help him. “If you invest such a sum, it’s because you believe in the person. I had the impression that it was never good, that it was never enough. There are players who don’t care. don’t give a damn regarding what can be said regarding them. Me, I’m sentimental, cerebral and I walk on affect. In France, it’s harder. And injuries killed me. I’ve hardened myself mentally, I learned a lot (from these 4 years in Nantes). There were ups, but above all a lot of downs, and they made me grow. It opened my mind to a lot of things.”
