Gerry is a 45-year-old organist living in Lummen. And if he is talked about today, it is not because of his job or his age. But because of… his car, an Opel Astra.
The vehicle is indeed 25 years old and has already driven more than 1,000,000 kilometres. “Is it exceptional to drive so much with a car? I imagine so. It’s my first engine and I’ve never had too much expense. I have never had an accident, and I maintain it very well,” he explains. “My riding style is also important,” he says.
Each year, Gerry drives between 45 and 50,000 kilometers per year: “Ideal for a diesel car. My car helps me go quietly from point A to point B,” he continues.
“I maintain my car like a woman, with love and respect. I listen to my engine and when I hear a noise, I have it checked”. Thanks to this rigor, Gerry has already saved a lot of money, because he has only bought one car in 25 years. “On the other hand, I’m already on my fourth maintenance booklet”.
Happy with his performance, Gerry would like to show his car at the Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim: “They can be proud that I managed to drive a million kilometers with it. On most cars, it stops at 300,000 kilometres”.
