The whole neighborhood in the center of Exaerde, near Lokeren, was in shock on Monday after Stijn, in love with a certain D., killed Frank, her husband. Both were from the same neighborhood and loved the same woman, according to an account by Laatste Nieuws.
Frank, 42, and his wife were married with two children. Not long ago, the wife had started to have doubts about her life as a couple with her companion, a real estate agent, and had ended their relationship. In July, she had met Stijn, who fell in love with her.
After some time, D. had finally decided to give Frank another chance, and had therefore returned to live with her husband. But this rupture, Stijn did not support it. The latter then went in search of Frank, who used to walk his dog in a park, in the center of Exaerde.
As explained by our colleagues from HLN, the meeting between the two men, which took place on Monday, led to a shooting. Stijn fired three shots, at close range, wounding Frank in the head. The latter fell into the park’s pond and died of his injuries in hospital, after being taken care of by paramedics.
As soon as the irreparable committed, Stijn hastened to go to D., tells the Flemish daily. Arriving at her house, where he forced the door to return, he told her the terrible news: “I have just killed your husband”. D. then got to safety and called the police. While Stijn had locked himself in the house, he took the time to post a message on Facebook saying, “Sorry about everything”, before turning himself in to the police a few hours later.
