Sixth, the Monegasques did not overtake Rennes and Lille, 4th and 5th. The Bretons are qualified for the Europa League. The Mastiffs will play in the Europa League Conference play-offs. The Principality club ended its season on a flop, far from its initial objectives. Asemist coach Philippe Clement reacted following this failure. The Belgian wants to continue his adventure on the Rock.

“The absence of the European Cup? It’s a failure and a big disappointment for us. It’s cruel tonight. We were very close to doing it with two posts and the chance for Edan (Diop) at the end. When you push, you take a lot of risks to get the decisive goal, but we conceded that goal in transition. Today, I didn’t see a team that didn’t want to push to get the three points We have lost Europe in other periods, not tonight, by giving up too many points.

The poisonous atmosphere? It’s the life of a football player, a coach. Fans have all the rights. They can be upset when you don’t get the results you want. For me, the two key moments of the season were Leverkusen and the loss on penalties. We then went down. Lens was the other key moment. Then we collapsed. This is what we need to improve. It’s been coming back in recent years following a disappointment. We can bounce back faster and I feel responsible for that. I mightn’t find the right words and actions to change this state of mind any faster.

My future ? It will be the management’s choice. I do not run away from my responsibilities. I always look at myself in the mirror. I always want to be better and draw the right conclusions. I have this club in my heart and I still want to fight for it, but it will be up to the leaders to decide. Before Lens, we had talked regarding extending my contract but a few weeks later everyone is disappointed. Do I have the energy to continue? For now, it’s hard. I am tired tonight. I gave it my all in the last few weeks. I naturally made mistakes because I wanted to change things. But that’s the life of a coach. It’s always easier to figure it out followingwards.”
