“You are one of my favorite artists,” host Jimmy Fallon began.
“I have the best fans (…) Incredible that they were there in the good and bad times. They support me. “All the time I feel accompanied in each of the processes that I have to go through in life,” said Shakira.
When talking regarding her new album, the Colombian singer said: “It’s as if for too long they had sent us to cry with the script in our hands and without end. Only because we are women do we have to hide our pain from our children and from society. “We have to heal in a certain way and I don’t believe that.”
“Women decide when to cry, how to cry and until when,” says Shakira.
You’ve released songs here and there that are amazing and you came on our show and performed? Thanks for that. But what made you feel that you now have the complete album ready to publish? Fallón asks Shakira.
“I’ve been releasing music here and there, but it was very difficult for me to put together a body of work. I didn’t have time because of the husband factor,” says Shakira and the person presented says “How? Husband less,” to which she replies, “Yes, the husband was dragging me down.”
Shakira also shared that while she was writing: “Sometimes I felt like I had a knife between my teeth, you know, I was picking up pieces of myself off the ground. I was trying to put myself back together and the music was the glue. But it felt like it was a “alchemical process in which I was transforming pain, anger and frustration into creativity.”
Regarding the different versions of covers that he presented in different colors, he said that they represent the metaphor of precious stones: ruby, emerald and diamond.
It was like a therapeutic space, Shakira said: “When I was writing I was rebuilding myself and the only way I felt was I was putting myself back together. So each one of these songs was really like a catharsis for me and I felt better and better each time.”
Regarding his followers, he said that he feels like a herd of which he is part: “This is how I feel like I communicate with my audience through my music. You know, it’s like family to me, but we have this friendship with my audience that has, that has, and your time and all kinds of things. And it has remained alive for so many years and it is a true friendship. That’s why I think my relationship with my fans is so special because they are my pack, you know they have my back.”
In the program they also talked regarding the collaborations that the album has.
