The update brings a lot of gameplay and accessibility improvements, and also fixes a series of bugs.
Dave the Diver is a game we didn’t see coming. On the surface, it’s a cute indie management game regarding fishing and running a restaurant, but underneath it all lies engaging storytelling, varied and delicious gameplay, and one of the best games ever. 2023. And now it’s even better, thanks to a major new quality of life update.
Update adds functionality for automated quick events, an underappreciated accessibility issue in games for people with MSDs or other disabilities, so players will have the ability to press a button and end it.
Overall UI size has been adjusted to make it more usable on PC and Steam Decks, an inventory sorting feature has been added to allow players to easily dispose of unnecessary items when diving , and menu navigation has been improved to make it easier to move through vertical lists.
The update also brings optimizations that reduce overall build and patch size, and improve performance “so the game can run on devices with lower specs.” There is a bit of uncertainty, but performance improvements of any kind are always welcome.
Other improvements are:
Improved general text quality in French / German / Spanish / Portuguese. The mouse cursor no longer appears when playing with a gamepad. The Steel Net can now be purchased from the Cobra Shop anytime a (spoiler) is in progress.Overall sound quality has been improved.Korean and Japanese title screens have been localized.
The reaction to this update is actually quite remarkable. Typically, a developer releases an update, the fans give thanks, and everyone gets on with life. Dave the Diver fans are a little more enthusiastic. Excerpt from comments on Steam:

Tears in the eyesI DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO REALIZE IT, BUT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT.I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I feel like it’s a good idea to do it.
Along with quality of life changes, this update also brings a number of balancing tweaks and bug fixes. The full list is long and full of spoilers, so head over to Steam if you want to dive into the whole thing.
