The Municipality of Quito issued a statement with the statement of the mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, in the face of complaints of alleged actions in tax havens.
According to the entity, Santiago Guarderas assured that he has no shareholding in any company of this type. “I have no offshore actions, I have complied with the law,” he said before the Metropolitan Council of Quito, during the ordinary session held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
He assured that there are certain political stakeholders in tarnishing his name. “All this will come to light before the competent bodies, before the Comptroller’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office, those are the bodies to judge and that is where I am going to respond and not here in the Council, in front of some interests.”

He recalled that he knows the law because he is a lawyer, “a good lawyer and I know how to comply with the law, therefore I know what my duties and obligations are.”
He stated that he is waiting for an official notification “for certain facts that are announced on networks and on certain radios, but I cannot act – precisely because I am a lawyer – without having an official notification.
