After achieving South American glory and being one of the main architects of the title that took the Argentine team to the final, scoring two goals in the semifinal against Corinthians, Juan Fernando Quintero was invited to the ESPN sports program ‘Balón Divided’.

He talked about the football moment he is going through, what it meant to be champion of the Continental Tournament, his dreams and how he hopes to close his career.

He made it clear that he wants to return to the country and play with the team he loves, Deportivo Independiente Medellín. “I have many dreams to fulfill, one of them is to become champion with the team I am a fan of, there is that dream but I don’t know when it will happen,” said the man from Antioquia.

But in addition to Medellín, he does not close the doors to Colombian football because he loves it just like the country and considers himself “very patriotic.” He thanked and acknowledged the teams he has been through, “you never close the doors to anyone. I live eternally grateful to Nacional, which was the one that allowed me to be seen internationally and from there I went to Italy. I love the institution very much, obviously I strengthen it but obviously my connection is with Medellín, I am a guy tattooed with the Medellín shield and I cannot deny it. Envigado gave me my first steps in football and I am grateful to everyone. The people of Barranquilla loved me, respected me and I don’t close my doors to anyone because I am a guy who loves his country, I carry it with pride and I fly the flag wherever I have to go,” the Colombian proudly expressed.

He dribbled when they asked him what would happen if he called him Falcao wanted an assistant for Millonarios, to which Quintero responded “what else he wants if Mackalister puts him on,” and that he would return to Junior “but you know without who,” he noted in a joking manner.

At 31 years old, with a lot of football and talent ahead of him, he spoke of the possible retirement in about 3 or 4 years, which for some may be premature but for him more than fair because “I hope to leave at a decent time, not wait for the years to pass and for With all due respect, they start seeing someone like that, wow this guy is this age.”

He also took the opportunity to talk about Professor Pedro Sarmiento who died on October 30 due to leukemia. “For me, being so strong with his character formed me in a club that I owe a lot to and I am very grateful that it is Envigado and I also had excellent teammates. Pedro was a very royal person, very strong and he created that mentality of winning. Thank the teacher for the advice and his family.”

He also dedicated the semifinal match to him in which he scored a double and gave Racing a place in the final. “I know that up there in heaven he helped me win the match with Corinthians,” the Antioquian said emotionally.
